The Ellipse Fusion was the premier racquet of the Ellipse series. The impetus of Ellipse racquets was the recent discovery of Spectra™ fiber. Spectra™ fiber is a UHMW Polyethylene that damped vibration better than any material available at that time.
By incorporating Spectra™ into the material matrix a very comfortable racquet was created while maintaining the stiffness that was popular during this time. The Matrix System string pattern was designed to create a consistent bounce of the ball off the strings.
While Spectra™ hd huge performance advantages it was very expensive and difficult to work with at the manufacturing level. Spectra™ is very difficult to cut so heated scissors were required. Spectra™ is “inert” and therefore needed to be plasma etched so it would bond to the other materials. Spectra™ is more sensitive to high temperatures so the normal snap cure resin system could not be used which added several minutes to the manufacturing process.
As you walk through the museum other Ellipse racquets that have the name “Utah” in the description. The initial intent of Ellipse Sport was to manufacture the racquets in the United States. A great composite specialties company was discovered in Utah and these folks made the very first Ellipse Sport racquets. As you would expect the product was extraordinary but the cost made it impossible to continue with US production.

The Original Fusion S was retail priced @ $299.00
I have no idea of the general value today, however, a collector should pay about $500.00 for a new one and $350.00 for a very, very good used one.
